Today, we hear from a resident who has spent the last 10 years behind bars. His story is a complicated web of a robbery accusation and a secondary charge of “threatening” that made his sentencing much heavier than he ever expected. He narrates how a simple rejection of a girl’s advances led to an upset acquaintance, a retaliatory accusation, and a decade of lost freedom.
This interview highlights the dangers of association and the devastating power of a secondary charge in the Kenyan justice system. At Love Beyond Bars, we believe in humanizing these stories to foster prevention and reform. We are currently preparing for our Easter outreach to 1,500 residents.
